Maternity Session Information

Congratulations! This is such an exciting time in your life! It’s a huge transformation, and change of any kind can bring along some anxieties. My job is to help make this process as smooth and stress-free as possible.

Here are some of my most frequently asked questions…

When should I schedule my maternity portraits?

The best time to have your maternity photos taken is when you are around 30-34 weeks (7 or 8 months). You want your belly to be big enough to be seen when sitting or laying down, but still be comfortable enough to move around. If you are having multiples, you’ll have to do your session earlier, around 6 months (before 24 weeks).

When should I contact you to book my session?

As soon as you are twelve weeks, you are eligible for booking a maternity or newborn session. Most clients book around 16-22 weeks along, and because my studio books up in advance, I recommend booking your spot as early as you can.

What should I wear?

I provide gowns, accessories, floral pieces, crowns – everything except for your underwear. I have over 80 gowns!

It is highly recommended to have your hair and makeup professionally done by the stylists of your choice – I do not do hair and makeup myself. 🙂

After booking your session, you will be sent a session guide that has advice on how to prepare. You can go “shopping” in our wardrobe once you arrive at the studio for your session, and I will guide you to the pieces that are most flattering for your figure. My gowns and pieces are stretchy and I will clamp and tuck for a custom fit as needed. Most of my pieces will fit S to XL.

I have stretchmarks. Do I have to show my belly?

It’s your choice, to cover your belly, or bare it for a few images. In either case, we always provide gentle retouching for mama!

Will you retouch all of my images?

I hand edit and professionally retouch all of your delivered images for a beautiful AND natural result.

When will I receive my images from my session?

Your private online gallery will be ready for viewing and downloading within 3-4 weeks of your session. I will also provide a personal printing release that has tips on printing for best results.

I don’t know how to pose, I’m not naturally glamorous, Is a maternity session right for me?

I skillfully light and pose expecting mamas so they look and feel their best. Even the most nervous of clients leaves laughing and gushing about how much fun she had! I have heard from many second time moms how they wish they had just gone for it and captured their first pregnancy. It truly is a wonderful way to remember the beauty of that amazing journey!

Can my husband and first child be in some photos?

A partner is included in all of my packages, but a sibling is only included in the largest and longest maternity package.
