easy peasies swim diaper review and giveaway

<CLOSED: Winner is Lita del Rosario! Please contact us to claim your prize!>
Happy June! Summer is almost here, so it’s a great day to review our favourite swim diaper! Swim diapers are needed for any baby who wants to swim in a public pool, whether they wear disposables or cloth diapers the rest of the time. You can get expensive plastic disposable swim diapers and throw them away after each dip in the pool (and then go and buy more!), or you can choose from a variety of reusable swim diapers (just wash and reuse!).

Today’s review is for a newer Canadian cloth diapering brand called “Easy Peasies” – like my favourite saying “easy peasy, lemon squeezy!”
I was provided with a swim diaper for the purposes of this review, but as always, my opinions are unbiased and my own! Check the end of this review for a giveaway and a chance to win a swim diaper for your baby! (Canadian residents only)

The Easy Peasies swim diaper is a one-size resuable swim diaper that fits teeny tiny babies up to long and leggy toddlers. Four rows of rise snaps adjust the length of the diaper (short to tall), and two rows of waist snaps adjust the belly fit (slim to buddha). It has a waterproof outer made of PUL, the inside is lined with super soft fleece (the softest in our collection!), and the absorbent middle is made of microfiber. Only the soft fleece touches baby, and inner gussets and soft ruffly elastics keep messes in!

The Easy Peasies swim diaper is unique – it includes a single layer of built in absorbency (microfiber), so that if baby has an accident outside of the pool, the diaper will catch it, giving you enough time to change baby. A single layer of absorbency rather than multiple layers means that the diaper won’t absorb the pool water and become heavy (if you’ve ever tried leaving a disposable diaper on a baby in a pool, you know what I mean!)
Just so you know, both disposable and cloth swim diapers are designed to hold in solids, not pee. (Gross, and now you’re thinking about how many people are peeing in public pools, aren’t you? haha) Exclusively breast fed babies’ messes (ie runny poo) won’t be held in by mesh swim diapers. The pul-fleece design of the easy peasies swim diaper may make it one of the only swim diapers that has a chance of holding in liquid poop, however my baby is a toddler so I haven’t tested that theory out.

From the brand:

“This is a one-size swimmer that can double as a light trainer for potty learning. Soft inner fleece inside pulls wetness away and into a single layer of absorbent microfiber inside. Inner channels on either side help keep messes in the diaper where they belong. Unlike other swimmers our absorbent layer can protect against embarrassing leaks at pools or beach. Our versatile swim diapers fit from 6-40 lbs. Use on new babies up to potty learning. A built in single layer soaker helps soak up messes but will still let you know when your little one has wet. Inner stay dry fleece resists sand and other debris, and keeps baby’s skin dry.”

About $20 for the swim diaper. This is a one-size diaper, so you don’t have to buy additional sizes, but I would recommend buying two so you have a backup pair if one is wet or dirty.

pin - the company

Easy Peasies (EP) is a Canadian-made cloth diaper company based out of Stanley, New Brunswick. I have found that the owner, Jessica Mackenzie, is always available to answer any questions related to her products or cloth diapering. This company has very pleasant customer service and a good warranty on their products. Easy Peasies also offers pocket diapers (my favourite!), newborn diapers, and an assortment of other baby products.

WHAT I LOVE ABOUT THIS DIAPER

WELL-MADE
The materials used in these diapers just blows me away. The fleece is the softest I’ve met in a cloth diaper, the PUL is wonderfully stretchy, and the elastics leave no red marks WHATSOEVER. Woot!

MADE IN CANADA
These diapers are made in Alberta from Canadian materials, Easy Peasies is based on the East Coast, in New Brunswick.

RUFFLED LEG ELASTICS
Gentle ruffled leg elastics don’t leave red marks on our baby’s sensitive skin, but keep messes in, and not on our baby, us, or in the pool!

AMAZING FIT
Seriously -Easy Peasies make the BEST fitting diapers we’ve tried. The wings stretch softly and easily across baby, wrapping and snapping kind of like a bandaid feeling. Does that make sense? Because of this soft, snug fit, liquid poop is contained without the need for additional ruffled elastics at the waist (which I found dug into my baby’s belly in other brands). It’s seriously the perfect waist! The crotch is super super trim between baby’s legs, as narrow as a version 1.0 Charlie Banana or V.2 fuzzi bunz elite (circa 2011). That’s like crazy narrow. 🙂

SOFT INNER GUSSET

Easy Peasies diapers have a soft fleece inner gusset that acts as a first barrier for messes (but trust me, those leg and back ruffles are holding it IN). I’ve tried double-gusset pockets before and the gusset was really hard (like who wants to sit on a bumpy diaper??), but these are soft and comfy for baby.

FLEECE
This swim diaper is lined with fleece, which allows water to flow through, but not solids – or sand. Mesh diapers can cause sandy bottoms, and this isn’t a problem with this swimmer. I love that there is that little bit of absorbency – it gives you just enough time to dash back in and change baby, instead of discovering that baby has gone…all down your swimsuit. 😛

COLOURS

EP has six vibrant colours to choose from, and the snap closures coordinate – which is a nice touch. I was provided with a raspberry pink for this review, and bought an orchid purple and lime green in addition!

ONE-SIZE
It’s one-size. This means that if we have two children in diapers at the same time, we can adjust the diapers quickly to suit the baby being changed. Snap snap! On the infant! Unsnap! On the toddler!

TRIM
These diapers are REALLY slim between the legs, which is great for younger babies especially.

pin - don't like

If I had to choose something, it would be that these swimmers can look a touch baggy – these swim diapers do not fit like speedos, if that is the look you are going for. 🙂 I would guess that it’s because of the material needed to be one-size, and that they appear to be the exact same cut as the easy peasies pocket diapers (which naturally have room for inserts). They smoosh down under suits, and are adorable on their own with a matching tankini or rash guard, so I wouldn’t really call this a negative feature at all. There are plenty of other swim diapers that also look this way, as a fyi. 😉

Would I recommend these to others?

Absolutely!
