Three weeks ago my little sister married a handsome, kind, and hilarious man named Chris. Chris is a professional soccer coach, and I’m pretty sure he loves my sister even more than the Aresenal team! And that’s saying A LOT. haha!
Three weeks ago she became a “mrs” and the newest chapter of their love story began. I was so lucky to work with Erika, not only as her sister and maid of honour, but as a wedding planner and her wedding photographer. It was a gorgeous day, and an incredible event that went off without a hitch (thanks Jaclyn!). Erika put in a RIDICULOUS amount of work into her wedding; from hand-crafting hundreds upon hundreds of paper florals, to hand-beading a plain dress into the dress of her dreams, this wedding was a labour of love, and it shows. I’ll let the images speak for themselves in just a second, but to start things off, in words I’ve already said and meant….

(my maid of honour speech)
Hello! For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Alexandra Hunt, and I’m lucky enough to be the big sister to the beautiful bride. Thank you all for coming to celebrate this wonderful day, thank you to both families for their love and support, and before I forget, a big shout out to my mother and the bride for ALL of the beautiful decorations and loving touches you see at the golf club tonight. Can you imagine? All of these flowers and decorations were hand-made by Erika. I don’t even think she can wiggle her fingers anymore!
Erika is the middle sister out of a family of three girls. She’s loyal, stubborn, generous to a fault, hilarious, and immensely talented… in waaayy too many things. She’s been my sidekick forever, and even when we’ve lived apart, she was willing to make epic journeys (across snowy fjords in frozen trains!) just to be with me…and now she’s getting married. I always knew this day would come – after all, we rehearsed it with our barbies dozens of times! Even so, nothing could have prepared me for this day.
Erika, you look radiant. Absolutely STUNNING. I am so proud of the woman you have become, and I am so proud to be standing up with you on this special day. Chris, you clean up nicely. haha!
Erika and Chris are like peanut butter and jelly – a perfect balance of two distinct personalities. They complement each other, they bring out the best in each other, and I just know that this marriage is “sticky” – made to last.
To the bride and groom! Cheers!

I have to give a huge shout out to Hayley Rae for being my second photographer that day. Without Hayley, I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy myself, be present, and actually *be* in some pictures as well! I loved being able to set up a shot and literally hand my camera over to her, knowing that it was in great hands. She got some beautiful alternate angles, was so professional and pleasant, and I would highly recommend her. A big thank you to my father (my usual second photographer) for stepping up as third photographer, and to Christine Williams as well for helping us cover the ceremony and cocktail hour!
Erika and Chris opted for a “first look” – meaning that they saw each other before the ceremony. It was a great opportunity for them to reconnect and relax and focus on what was really important that day – the love and promises they would be making to each other.
The ceremony and reception were both held at the Vancouver and Golf Club. We loved the natural stone and wood fireplace that was used as the altar area. Very west coast!
Let me mention again that my sister pretty much made everything from scratch…check out her hand-painted seating chart!
Erika and Chris are foodies, so naturally their buffet was out of this world. Seriously. You are lucky I’m not including a picture of my plate! Instead of a wedding cake, they did a selection of heart-shaped gourmet donuts (in incredible flavours like lavender earl grey, peanut butter & jelly, macha green tea, etc)
The dance floor was packed all night long! What a great party!
“May God be with you and bless you, may you see your children’s children
May you be poor in misfortune, but rich in blessings
May you know nothing but happiness from this day forward
May you have walls for the wind, and a roof for the rain, and a warm hand to hold beside the fire
Laughter to cheer you, and those you love near you
And all that your heart may desire.”
