Like many East Indian weddings, Kiran and Jasvir’s Sikh wedding took place over a few days. I was pleased as punch to be their wedding photographer and see firsthand the many vibrant and colourful traditions of their culture.
Kiran’s “ladies’ party” was held at the Crown Palace, in Surrey, British Columbia. Kiran and her family welcomed guests as they arrived, then after appetizers, Kiran, her friends, and the women in her family went on stage to sing traditional songs together. Kiran was presented with gifts by the women of Jasvir’s family, who were honoured guests. The Jugo dancing ensued (the jugo is a lamp headdress proudly worn and passed from woman to woman during the dance), and a lovely dinner followed. Mmmmm. Indian food.
