Mama’s got a brand new bag!
I’ve been using a Shootsac for years, but even though it’s meant for lens-switching, it no longer fits my style of shooting.
THE OLD BAG: SHOOTSAC

I love using a variety of lenses while I work, and even at engagements I’m carrying 5-6 lenses (including big zooms). The chubby primes (like the 85L) won’t even FIT properly in a Shootsac, and it’s kind of embarrassing to have to take off your bag entirely while you try to get anything in the back three sleeves (without having items in the front three fall out).
Practically speaking, as soon as you have heavy lenses in the front three pockets, the shootsac is so squished against you that it’s nearly impossible to get anything out of the back three sleeves (which I used for smaller items like batteries, flashes, phones, etc) – defeating the purpose of a 6 sleeve bag.
It’s also hecka embarrassing to wear a fanny pack in addition to a shootsac. Even if it’s flat and leather and practical (not enough storage space in a shootsac). I swear a little bit of me died when I bought it.
Joking. Kinda. 🙂
So, enter the Kelly Moore photography bag. I haven’t actually shot with it yet, but will give it the ‘ole College try’ at a political fundraiser for the deputy Premier that I’m shooting this week. (Yes, I shoot corporate – and love it!)
Kelly Moore has several styles available, and many awesome colours (which are usually sold out).
WHY I CHOSE THE KELLY MOORE CLASSIC BAG:
It looks like a stylish purse instead of a gear bag (yay! no more being paranoid about being mugged after a session!)
The colour I ordered (teal) goes with my branding and vintage 1950s luggage. Note: It’s SO much darker in person than on the website. It’s two kisses away from being Forest Green. I ordered it from Adorama, which has more stock than the Kelly Moore website.
It can be worn cross-body or over the shoulder (I prefer cross body)
Has ample storage space (two pockets on the front, two slip pockets on the side, zip pocket on back, velcro dividers inside) – and contrast lining (lilac!)
Built tough and stands up on its own! No more gingerly placing my shootsac on a level, smooth, cushiony surface!
Lenses aren’t smushed, and are easily accessible for fast switching.
It’s as wide as the Shootsac, but taller (better fit for the 70-200L and my big zooms)
You can fit a second body in the back zippered pocket, or papers/ipad.
I’ll give it a thorough review once I’ve used it, but for now, I’m in love!
