POSED NEWBORN – 7-14 days old
If you want beautiful images of baby in sleepy, curly, newborn poses and in beautiful setups or props, your baby needs to come in between 7 -14 days after birth. At this age they are naturally curled up and sleep through the constant physical manipulations required for poses. It doesn’t usually bother them as long as they are fed properly.
For baby boys, I strongly recommend waiting until after the session to schedule his circumcision. Circumcised babies can’t be placed on their tummy or posed in baskets. They are generally – and understandably – fussy.

OLDER NEWBORN – 15-30 days old
If you forgot to book newborn photos before baby came, or your baby required NICU time and is older than 2 weeks at the session, please be advised that your session will give just as many beautiful images, but we will do a lifestyle white-on-white natural session to adjust for a developmentally more mature infant. You will have more awake images, more images of baby swaddled and images of the family together.
Why? Babies 2 weeks and older are developmentally different: alert, uncurled, often fussy or colicky. Their skin is often peeling or subject to newborn acne by this point. Your baby will still sleep a lot, but they will not sleep THROUGH posing/outfit changes/props like a brand-new baby can. It is not safe to put an awake baby in a prop, and it is not possible to pose awake babies. Old newborns cluster feed constantly, so it will be hard to separate them from mom.
